Pharmaceutical packaging

Automatic wrapping line for pharmaceutical products.

Using flow-wrappers in pharma applications means cost reduction both in terms of packaging as well as waste, together with efficiency increases, fewer human resources involved and extremely tight sealing achieved at high speeds. Cavanna wrappers are able to deliver all this thanks to their outstanding sealing capabilities and precision. They are able to deliver in parallel easiness of integration of different devices and check points, extreme flexibility of hardware and software and tracking of the production batch. Because of these and other key features, Cavanna has been selected by some major Pharma manufacturers as the preferred supplier of feeding and flow-wrapping systems. The documentary system makes reference to the GMP (Good manufacturing practice), which is the validation guide for the automation systems in the pharmaceutical industry and it determines the procedures to be followed.

Cavanna, working as a team, has developed a qualified structure able to set up the procedures and the methodologies to be used, according to a "Quality plan". Cavanna is able to prepare a plan of the tests with the relevant documents to be used to confirm point by point the correspondence between FDS (Functional Design Specification) and SDS (System Design Specification) also including the detailed specifications. Hardware and software components must precisely meet the requested specifications; at the end of the production activity, Cavanna arranges to make the tests of each unit composing the line, issue the relevant documentation and then test the whole integrated system: FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).

After the installation at the customer's factory, the system will be further tested and validated through the activities described in the SAT (Site Acceptance Test) which consists of two basic documents for the system qualification and installation: IQ (Installation Qualification) and OQ (Operational Qualification). Once the documentation "as built" is completed and verified, it is time to go on with control procedures of the future changing. The whole line is designed, built and tested in one factory by a dedicated team, giving the highest warranty in terms of integration and performance. Size changeovers are accomplished following Lean principles and widely use color coding labels as well as step-by-step instructions on the HMI. "Sanitary design" principles apply to lots of food packaging solutions, enhancing both the cleaning of the line as well as food safety.
